My World

A peep through pages of my Life...

My HomeTown..

Mangalore is a city with difference. I am lucky enough to be born in this beautiful coastal city. Located on the coasts of Arabian Sea on one side and Western Ghatts on the other, Mangalore is truly a place to be.

My hometown is a few km away from here, Moodbidri, famous for its thousand pillar Temple. My father hails from  Mangebettu,a  small village  about 20kms from Moodbidri. This place is very near to  Ashwathapura known for its beautiful and divine temple of Sri SeethaRamachandra .My mother hails from Kadandale about 15kms from Moodbidri.I spent most of my early days in both of these places. I enjoyed visiting here every vacation for about a month playing with cousins, meeting granny/grandpa, uncle, aunt and whole of family. Those were the days when we went searching for mangoes or playing all day long in scorching sun or having a dip in the river besides our home. Might be walking 4km a day to get the milk form local co-operative society or scoldings from grandpa for not being at home all afternoon or for breaking the bulb while playing cricket!!

Mangalore is known for it rich culture and Tulu language. Situated on the shores of Arabian sea, Mangalore has a lot to offer for people looking out for adventure and fun.It rains as it has never rained before and winters are generally cool and for summer, hmm its HOT!!.Mangalore has been know as the banking capital of India as many of India's nationalized banks has its root from this city. A few to name are Canara Bank, Coo-pertaive bank, Syndicate Bank and many other small ones. Tulu is the common spoken language followed by Kannada and Konkani. Karnataka's folk art-'Yakshagana' also called GANDU METIDA nratya has it origin here. Known for seafood, Mangalore is also place for vegges!! Pathrode, Appe, Kotte, Neer Dosa are local favorites. Kori-Rotti (chicken and rice flakes) makes anyone's mouth watering!!Bhoota kola, Chande-madale, Naga mandala, Atti nratya, Kambala are few traditional folk arts and sports which are still followed by us and locals here. A city well known for educationist and education, it is also the major port city of our state - Karnataka. To finish I would say, Mangalooru/Mangalore or locally called Kudla is a heaven on earth for me.
